The world of sports is dominated by great rivalries. Every baseball fan knows about the competition between the Yankees and the Red Sox. Football fans follow the rivalry between the Bears and the Packers, or the Bills and the Jets. If you love hoops, then you’ve seen many great contests between the Lakers and the Celtics. This same competition dominates the world of pickup trucks, with Ford, Ram, and Chevrolet fighting for the top spot. In fact, the top three selling passenger vehicles in America are pickup trucks, and its no wonder since these rugged, versatile vehicles offer more for the money than any other vehicle type. This is especially so when you look at used trucks. This is a great way to get behind the wheel of the most popular trucks at a very affordable price.

If you are looking for used trucks for sale, then you should stop by our dealerships. At DePaula Auto Group, we have built our reputation on offering the widest selection of used trucks, allowing you to find one that fits your budget and your needs. Whether you are looking to use one for work or play, we have the makes, models, features, and trims you desire to get the job done. Here are some of the best-selling used trucks you can find here at DePaula Auto Group.

#1. Ford F-Series

When it comes to truck sales, Ford is currently in the top spot. It has actually held this vaunted position since 1977. The Ford F-Series is one of the most versatile, featuring the F-150 full-size truck, as well as a trio of heavy-duty trucks known as the Super Duty models, which include the F-250, F-350, and F-450.

The Ford F-Series has been in continuous production since 1948. It is currently in its fourteenth generation since 2021, but you can still find some great used Fords from the twelfth and thirteenth generations. Ford offers the F-Series with a number of different engine options, including a number of different conventional gas engines and even a turbo-diesel.

One thing to keep in mind when buying a used Ford F-Series is that Ford uses a different name for its cab styles. It does refer to the two-door cab with one row of seats as a Regular Cab, but the other two cab-style names are unique to Ford. The cab with two full-size and two half-size doors is a Super Cab on a Ford, and the one with four full-size doors is a SuperCrew Cab.

#2. Ram

When it comes to truck sales, only Ford can top Ram. Formerly known as Dodge Ram, Ram became its own separate brand under Stellantis in 2010. So, if you see a pickup with the name Dodge Ram, it is from the older version of this truck. The full-size model is the Ram 1500, while the heavy-duty models are the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500.

The Ram truck first debuted in 1981 and is currently in its fifth generation since 2019. One thing that sets Ram apart from other automakers is the use of the famous HEMI V8 in many of its models. It also offers a turbo-diesel. The other thing that sets Ram trucks apart is that they do not offer a regular cab design. Instead, you get to choose between a Crew Cab with four full-size doors and a Quad Cab with two full-size doors and two half-size doors. Finally, Ram began offering its eTorque system in many of its trucks. This mild hybrid engine helps boost performance while reducing fuel consumption.

#3. Chevy Silverado

One of the most memorable names in pickup trucks is the Silverado. This began life as the top trim level on Chevy trucks, starting in the mid-’70s. By 1999, Chevy had decided to introduce its most improved and versatile truck yet and chose to give it the name Silverado. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is the top-selling, full-size model. There are also two heavy-duty trucks offered by Chevy, the Silverado 2500 HD and Silverado 3500 HD. Currently, the Silverado is in its fourth generation since 2019, with many third-generation models still available on the used market.

The Chevy Silverado stands out among the big three by offering more engine options and trim levels than Ford or Ram on comparable-sized trucks. This allows you to find a Silverado that has all the features you desire. Chevy also offers the Silverado in regular cab, crew cab, and double cab styles, letting you choose the one that best suits your purposes.

#4. GMC Sierra

Built on the same framework as the Chevy Silverado, the GMC Sierra trucks come in as the fourth top-selling model in America. If you combine the sales of the Sierra and the Silverado, you will see that they outsell even the Ford F-Series. Just like the Silverado, the Sierra offers a full-size 1500 model and two heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 trucks. GMC also offers the Sierra with regular cab, crew cab, and double cab designs.

While the performance of the GMC Sierra 1500 is comparable to the Silverado, the features and styling of the Sierra tend to be a little more upscale than comparable trim levels of the Chevy. As a result, the Sierra will have a slightly higher price point than the Silverado, even on the used truck market. The top trim is the Sierra Denali, which offers more in the way of luxury features and creature comforts than most other full-size pickup trucks.

#5. Toyota Tacoma

The best-selling midsize pickup in America is the Toyota Tacoma. This versatile little pickup makes a great first truck for someone new to trucking. It is easier to handle than a full-size pickup but delivers solid performance and towing and hauling capabilities. Toyota has been offering the Tacoma since 1995, with the current third-generation model on the market since 2015. A used Toyota Tacoma will give you the choice of a Double Cab with four full-size doors or an Access Cab with two full-size and two half-size doors. Toyota does not offer the Tacoma with only one row of seats. In addition, the Tacoma comes equipped with a choice of two very fuel-efficient engines.

#6. Toyota Tundra

Toyota’s full-size complement to its popular Tacoma midsize pickup is the Tundra. Toyota introduced the Tundra in 1999, the same year as Chevy debuted the Silverado. While its sales don’t approach those of the Chevy, it still holds its own when it comes to performance and capability. The third-generation Toyota Tundra was introduced in 2021, although you can still find many second-generation models available on the used market. Like the Tacoma, the Tundra is not offered with a regular cab. Instead, drivers are offered a model with four full-sized doors called a CrewMax and one with two full-size and two half-sized doors, confusingly called the Double Cab.

#7. Nissan Frontier

Nissan’s entry into the increasingly popular midsize pickup truck category is the Frontier. The 2022 model is the end of only the second generation in the Frontier’s history, a testament to the fact that Nissan got it pretty much right the first time when it introduced the Frontier in 1997. Nissan gives you the choice of a Crew Cab or a King Cab with two full-sized and two half-sized doors. Earlier models of the Frontier offered a regular cab, but this was eventually phased out in 2001. As a result, you are more likely to find a used Frontier with a Crew Cab or King Cab.

#8. Chevy Colorado

While Chevy may trail Ford when it comes to sales of its full-size and heavy-duty trucks, it does surpass its main rival when it comes to midsize pickups. This may be because the Colorado offers more trim levels and engine options than any other midsize truck. This follows the methodology of the Chevy truck brand. In addition, the Chevy Colorado offers a choice of a Crew Cab or Extended Cab, which is similar to a Double Cab format. Like most other midsize trucks, no regular cab option is offered on the Colorado. The history of the Chevy Colorado is also interesting, as Chevy offered this truck from 2004 to 2012 and then brought it back as a new generation in 2015 following a three-year hiatus. While Chevy is set to debut the third-generation Colorado in 2023, you can still find a great deal on a used second-generation model.

#9. Jeep Gladiator

One of the most interesting used trucks we offer is the Jeep Gladiator. Jeep introduced this model in 2020, offering a truck with the styling and design of a Jeep Wrangler but with a payload bed to improve its capabilities. The Gladiator is designed with the off-road warrior in mind, featuring a standard 4×4 drivetrain and other special features meant for the trail. Just like the Wrangler, the Gladiator has a removable hard or soft top, with doors that can be removed and stowed within the vehicle as well. A Crew Cab is also standard on all models of the Gladiator.

#10. Ford Ranger

Ford has been offering its Ranger midsize pickup truck off and on since 1983. Its fourth-generation model hit the roads in 2019 after an almost decade-long period when it had been discontinued. The Ford Ranger roared back with a more rugged design, like a smaller version of an F-150. Each model features a powerful but efficient turbocharged I-4 gas engine. The cab designs include a SuperCrew and a smaller SuperCab. Ford is set to introduce a new generation Ranger in 2023, meaning that you should have no problem finding a really good one on the used truck market.

#11. GMC Canyon

Like an upscale version of the Chevy Colorado, the GMC Canyon fits well for a driver seeking a used midsize pickup that works perfectly for business and fun. If you are leaning more toward using your used GMC Canyon as a family vehicle, you should consider a Denali trim. In addition, GMC offers an AT4 model of the Canyon that is ideal for off-roading.
