Three Reasons to Love the Chevy Colorado
If you’ve been searching for Chevy trucks for sale, you’ve undoubtedly come across the Chevy Colorado. The pickup has barely been on the market for a decade, but it’s already established itself as one of the most popular trucks in the industry.
Anyone can simply visit Chevy’s website and see all that the pickup has to offer. However, there may be some facts that you’re missing out on in regards to the Chevy Colorado. So let’s take a look at several interesting facts regarding the pickup, which may inspire you to search for the vehicle as you’re looking for Chevy trucks for sale.
Athletes Are Fans of the Colorado
You probably never though that you’d be driving around in the same vehicle as a professional athlete, but that’s now possible with the Chevy Colorado. Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer was recently awarded the 2016 Ted William’s All-Star Game Most Valuable Player at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Besides earning the prestigious honor, Hosmer also won one of Chevy’s most impressive pickup trucks. The first baseman got to choose between the stylish 50th Anniversary Edition Camaro SS Convertible or the rugged Colorado Diesel Midnight Edition. Naturally, the ballplayer opted for the truck. This means a millionaire athlete is driving around in a pickup that you may target while searching for Chevy trucks for sale.
“Hosmer’s spectacular on-field performance tonight demonstrates to all baseball fans and especially our kids that hard work, determination and teamwork is what wins, and that is why Chevrolet is proud to present the MVP award,” said Brian Sweeney, the U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet.
The vehicle is a boosted version of a black Z71 Colorado Diesel, featuring an all-black front end and a body-colored grille, bumper, and badging. The pickup also features 17-inch black wheels and the reliable Goodyear DuraTrac tires.
The truck features a 2.5-liter I-4 engine hiding under the hood, but the system certainly makes itself known as it’s cruising down the highway. The engine pumps out 200 horsepower and 191 pounds-feet of torque, and the numbers play a significant role in the 3,500-pound towing capacity. Best of all, drivers can expect a 20 city/27 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency.
This specific Colorado also includes:
- The X71 off-road suspension
- Driver and passenger power lumbar
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen radio (with Chevy’s MyLink capabilities)
Chevy isn’t only awarding professional baseball players. The Chevrolet Youth Baseball program was responsible for handing out over 90,000 equipment kits to children around the country, and the brand also had a role in the renovation of nearly 11,000 ballparks. Best of all, the company provided athletic instruction to more than 111,000 children.
“At Chevrolet, we appreciate the power of play and the positive effect that it has on our kids,” Sweeney added. “That positive effect on our kids and ultimately on our communities is why it is so important to us and our Chevrolet dealers to support baseball at every level.”
It’s an Award Winner
If you needed any more convincing regarding the Chevy Colorado, you don’t need to look any further than Motor Trend. The respected publication has handed the pickup the coveted “Truck of the Year” award for the second straight year. This is certainly an accolade that you should keep in mind as you’re searching for Chevy trucks for sale.
There’s no denying that the nameplate has earned this honor. After all, the diesel version of the Colorado offers the best fuel-economy in the entire class. The 2.8-liter unit is capable of delivering a 22 city/31 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency, which are especially impressive numbers considering the power. The diesel engine is capable of pumping out 181 horsepower and a best-in-class 369 pounds-feet of torque, resulting in a best-in-class 7,700-pound towing capacity (when equipped with the available trailering package).
Motor Trend also commended the various options offered by the company, including the ability to choose between a four-door extended or crew cab model. There’s also multiple engine options, and we haven’t even focused on the 3.6-liter V6 engine. The unit offers a number of best-in-class specs, including the 305 horsepower (which is accompanied by the 269 pounds-feet of torque), the 7,000-pound towing capacity, and the 18 city/26 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency.
The Future Is Bright
Some car companies would see all of their success and hold tight. Chevy isn’t your ordinary car company, however. When you’re looking for Chevy trucks for sale, you’ll notice some major differences between the Colorado’s model years.
Engineers recognized opportunities to improve their award-winning pickup, and you’ll see these revisions highlighted in the 2017 model. The brand recently announced that they’ll be offering a new V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a class-exclusive driving experience.
“Customers made the Colorado an overnight success and it remains one of the industry’s hottest-selling products,” said Anita Burke, Chief Engineer of GM’s Midsize Trucks. “That fast success has justified our continued investment in midsize pickups, introducing new features for our customers such as the class-exclusive diesel engine, advanced technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and now a class-leading V-6 and eight-speed automatic powertrain combination.”
The brand already recognized that their engines produced both class-leading efficiency and power (although Chevy did announce that the Colorado’s new V6 will deliver an upgraded 308 horsepower and 275 pounds-feet of torque). So instead of finding ways to improve these specs, the engineers focused on improving the overall driving experience. Stan Ludlow, the 2017 Colorado’s Chief Engineer, noted that drivers will notice that the truck “pulls harder when accelerating from a stop or passing on the highway; it is more confident pulling a trailer up a steep grade and it is more refined cruising at a constant highway speed.”
You probably weren’t expecting all of that. The vehicle is an award winner, it has a bright future, and it’s a hit among professional athletes. There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to the Chevy Colorado, and that’s a big reason why the pickup should be on your list as you search for Chevy trucks for sale.
