(1500) Powertrain & Performance

Starting with the 1500 you’ll find that a 4.3-liter V6 paired to a six-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims, except for the LTZ and High Country. Rated for 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, fuel economy is estimated at 19-20 mpg (combined). Towing capacity maxes out around 7600 LBS while may payload comes in at 1980 LBS.

Standard on the 1500 LTZ and High Country is a 5.3-liter V8, mated to a six-speed automatic with the option of an eight-speed. Channeling 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, it maintains a similar 18-20 mpg (combined). Properly equipped, it can tow up to 11,000 LBS, with payload maxing out at 2430 LBS.

Optional on the LTZ and High Country is a 6.2-liter V8, matched to an eight-speed automatic. At 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, this beast serves up a slightly more modest 17 mpg (combined). That said, a properly equipped 1500 with this powertrain could tow up to 12,500 LBS and carry up to 2160 LBS.

 

(2500HD) Powertrain & Performance

The 2500 comes standard with a 6.0-liter V8 paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Generating 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque

You also have the option of a turbocharged 6.6-liter diesel V8, mated to a six-speed Allison 1000 transmission. This ups the output to 445 hp and 910 lb-ft, can tow up to 14,500 LBS (18,100 with a fifth-wheel trailer) and has a 3204 LB max payload.

 

(3500HD) Powertrain & Performance

Like the 2500, a 6.0-liter V8 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is standard on the 3500. It also serves up the same option of upgrading to the 6.6-liter diesel. Properly equipped, and with a fifth-wheel trailer, the 3500 can tow as much as 8000 LBS with a 7,153 LB max payload.

 

Available Technology

Regardless of whether you prefer the 1500, 2500HD or 3500HD the (base WT) Work Truck trim is minimal (at best) when you’re discussing standard technology. While you do have the option of adding on features, it would be best to ‘aim higher’ unless your search is for a bare-bones work truck.

That said, the LT trim would be your first stop. The MyLink infotainment system features voice controls and would be built around an 8-inch touchscreen (with rearview camera) and six-speaker audio system. Bluetooth enabled, the LT trim upgrades the audio to satellite radio, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where Chevy shines above so many competitors is in the standardization of OnStar 4G LTE WiFi as a feature. Making this available, even at lower trim levels, is simply smart and sets Chevy’s efforts apart.

As you move up trim levels, upgraded features include (LTZ) remote start and household style outlet (High Country) navigation system, heated steering wheel, ventilated seating, wireless phone charging and a BOSE audio system.

Spacious & Comfortable
