What to Do If Your Car Won’t Start
It can be frustrating to jump in the driver’s seat, just to find that your car won’t start. If you end up in this position, there is nothing more important than taking the right steps. This way, you can get back on the road as soon as possible.
There are many reasons why your car may not start. From a dead battery to a bad starter, it is hard to say exactly what the problem is until you take a closer look. If you don’t know what you are doing, it is time to take your vehicle to an auto service center.
Of course, since your car won’t run, you will have to contact a towing company for assistance.
But Hold On…
Don’t pick up your cell phone just yet. You may be able to get your car up and running one more time, giving you enough time to drive to a local service center.
Here is what you should do:
- Take out your jumper cables
- Be sure that both cars are in neutral or park
- The engines of both vehicles should be turned off, with the emergency brake on
- Remove the caps from both batteries
- Connect the jumper cables
- Try to start your vehicle
- Disconnect the cables
At this point, your car is either running or it remains dead. If running, take it to a local auto service center for a closer look. You may need a new battery, and it is better to get it now than to find yourself stranded in the future once again.
As noted above, if your car still won’t start, contact a towing company.
No matter how much care you take, there is likely to come a time when your car won’t start. This isn’t the end of the world. At the worst, you can have your vehicle towed to a local service center.
From there, the problem will be diagnosed and your vehicle will be back on the street soon enough.
