If you are looking for car maintenance Albany NY, you don’t want to wait until last minute to pay for it. Car repairs/maintenance is something that car owners don’t really think about until a situation arises. All of a sudden, it’s a few years later and your transmission starts grinding, or your engine seizes up. Why? You decided to neglect regularly maintaining your car. Maintaining your car regularly is a necessary expense, and If you take what you’ve spent on maintenance/repairs over the course of a year, you can see how much it costs you monthly to maintain your car.

This way, you will be better prepared for the years to come with your vehicle, or when it’s time for another one.

The Monthly Cost

You are supposed to be making regular pit-stops at a garage in order to keep your vehicle healthy. While it might not seem like it at the time, these pit stops get expensive over time. Gather up your receipts for repairs and maintenance, and then add them up. Let’s say you spent an even $1,000 on repairs and maintenance for your vehicle over the past year. Now, take that and divide it by 12. That equates to $83.3 a month spent on just maintenance and repairs. As painful as that reality is, it’s important to realize just how expensive it is to own a car.

If you can’t find all your receipts, then simply take how much it costs you for a 3-month service. Now, multiply that by 4 and get the total. That total is how much your 3-month service interval would cost. Add a little extra for repairs outside of the 3-month service, then divide it by 12. While it’s not perfect, this equation gives you a good enough estimate to see roughly how much your car maintenance costs you monthly.

Why Does it Cost That Much?

It might cost a pretty penny or two in order to keep your car in good shape, but the cost makes sense. This total cost could include anything between oil changes, to getting your car towed because you broke down, or getting the engine repaired. The point is, even changing your oil adds up quicker than you think. Even if you do it yourself to try and save some money, it will still cost you over $20 to do it properly. Multiply that by 4 (adhering to the 3-month rule), and you have $80 in just oil changes for a single year.

Granted if your engine needs to be repaired, it will probably cost you a lot more monthly than $83 a month.

So, How Do I Expect the Unexpected?

Various articles and experts say that you should budget $100 a month for car repairs/maintenance if you can’t get an exact price. Then, depending on if your car is new or old, increase or decrease the price from there. Take the money, and put it into your savings account or safe under the floor. Don’t touch it until you need to make a repair/pay for maintenance on your car.

It’s also important to understand this cost doesn’t include your loan payments/insurance payments on the car. So, make sure to prepare accordingly for that as well. The unfortunate fact of the matter is, this the price you need to pay in order to keep your car healthy. But, it will pay off in the long run.
