Changes Made to the 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
In today’s automotive industry, it’s not uncommon to get ahead of ourselves and focus strictly on what’s to come rather than how good it is, presently. I suppose that’s true in life, as well. So while there’s already so much buzz about the 2017 Chevy Silverado, it’s worth remembering that 2016 2500 HD is a great looking Silverado and comes with more than enough to celebrate.
Having quietly announced that Chevy has introduced some updates to the HD lineup is something that does deserve our attention. The updates to the 2016 Silverado 2500 HD are all about payload and towing capabilities, which if we’re being honest, is what matters most to interested parties. True, looks count for something, but nowhere near as much as the towing capacity and ability to haul tons. The fact that the Silverado 2500 HD also happens to be a great looking truck can be attributed to the fact that Chevy designers know what its buyers want.
Heavy Duty Packages
The HD lineup now includes a Gooseneck/5th Wheel Trailering Prep Package with a spray-in bedliner that delivers more capable towing experience straight from the factory. This package features a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray to accommodate a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth wheel hitch mounting brackets. Also included is a cargo bed-mounted trailer harness.
The Gooseneck Completion Kit will be offered through Chevy dealers only and includes a 2-5/15-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs.
Those looking for maximum payload returns in the HD lineup will find the same 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engine paired with the Allison 1000 six-speed transmission, both which are carried over from the 2015 model year. The standard engine remains the 6.0L V8 L96.
Buyers Are Seeing Red
As far as technological updates, the 2016 HD lineup involves the addition of Apple CarPaly and Andriod Auto support. Wireless smartphone charging, MyLink radio/audio system with 7” color touch screen which replaces the IO4 Audio System, HD Radio, and remote-locking tailgate are also included. Tired of some of the humdrum exterior colors offered for the 2500, Chevy added more shades of red to spice up the selection. Buyers now get the choice of three new exterior colors: Siren Red, Red Hot, and Butte Red Metallic.
New power steering system has been added which now has an active hydraulic assist and recirculating ball. Two new wheel options replace old ones: an 18-inch chrome set and a 20-inch 5 spoke forged polished aluminum set now complete the Red Hot look.
The Midnight Edition is available on the LT Trim while the HD SLE Value Package and Custom Sports Edition is available on 1LT Trim. Manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel are added to the LT Convenience Package on Double and Regular Cab models.
For Life’s Most Demanding Jobs
Currently, the 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is the fastest growing full-size pickup brand of the year. Offering standard trailering capacity of 13,000 lbs is due to smart technologies like Trailer Sway Control and available Trailer Brake Controller. It’s Duramax engine is capable of towing up to 17,900 lbs which only stands to reason why the 2015 Silverado is not only so popular but also why, it’s sure to beat its personal best.
