3 Sure Signs You’ve Found an Honest Used Car Dealership

February 25th, 2016 by

Not all Albany NY used car dealerships are dishonest places to visit. Actually, most dealerships, new or used, have become much more reputable and trustworthy. This is in part thanks to growing communities, and the ability for consumers to easily expose dishonest dealerships via internet. This new type of environment forces even the few most-stubborn dishonest dealers remaining to be honest; not that there are many of those left.

Still, it’s important to know that you’ve found an honest dealership who actually wants to help you out. The first way to do this, is trust your gut.

There Are No Red Flags

This is more subjective, but it’s extremely important to trust your instincts; and look out for any warning signs. A dealership should make you feel comfortable, and the salesman should be helpful. A good way to determine this is if you’ve talked to them over the phone. If they are willing to negotiate with you via telephone, then they genuinely want to help you. If they try to pressure you into coming in and talking to them face-to-face, however, that’s a red flag. Chances are, they want to try and use high-pressure sales tactics in order to force you to buy the car; and they can’t do that over the phone.

I’m not saying all dealers who want you to come in and talk face-to-face want to pressure you into buying a car — there could be a good reason they want you to come in. Listen to the tone, do they sound frustrated? Are they being pushy? These are warning signs over the phone and when at the dealership, so it’s best to just walk away.

A Good Reputation

The internet is a wonderful resource, and the dealership’s website is an even better one. The website lets you browse their inventory, find their phone number, and possibly even chat with someone online. Most importantly, it lets you read customer reviews. You can see everything people say about the dealership, and if you think their website is an unfair way to judge that, then just google the dealerships name and put the word “reviews” at the end. You will be able to see first-hand testimonials that the dealership is good or bad, and the reasons behind each.

There might be mixed reviews, but just try and weed through the bad ones that are false. If the overall consensus on their website (or even better a third party website) is that the used car dealership is a good one, then it’s irrefutable proof of their trustworthiness.

They’ve Been in Business a While

Finally, you can see how long they’ve been in business. If they just popped up, that doesn’t mean they are a bad dealership. They might just have not gotten their name out there enough. But, if you want to be sure, then check how long the dealership has been in business. If they have been in business for a long time, then chances are they are doing something right.

In a way, these 3 signs go hand in hand. If all of them check out, then you’ve definitely found an honest used car dealership that just wants to help you. I can’t stress enough how important it is to listen to your gut, even if the reviews were all good or they’ve been in business for a while, your instincts might know something you don’t.
