The Perfect Blend of Muscle Car and Sports Car

2016 Chevy Camaro - Albany, NY

Until just a few years ago, there was a clear distinction between a muscle car and a sports car. A muscle car was all about raw power and speed , while a sports car was about finding a balance between power and handling for an engaging driving experience.

In 2016, however, Chevrolet has managed to combine the best of both of those in the new Camaro.

Exterior Changes

With the fifth generation Camaro, Chevy began taking steps to make its classic muscle car perform like a sports car. But with the sixth generation, the company has gone to great lengths to ensure the 2016 Camaro  is the most aerodynamic version ever produced.

The new generation went through 350 hours of testing  in wind tunnels to improve speed, handling, noise, cooling, and overall performance. The changes made the exterior have not just allowed for reduced drag; it’s also reduced aerodynamic lift by 30 percent.

Looking at the new model, it might not seem like a lot has changed from the 2014 or 2015 model, but the body has seen some design improvements. The car’s designers created a more sleek appearance by shaving two inches off the top and adding an inch to the width. This gives it an even more aggressive look than the previous generation.

There’s no question that this car will stand out, even amongst more expensive and exotic cars, here in Albany, NY.

Weight Loss

Along with the exterior design changes made to improve overall performance, Chevy knew it still had one elephant in the room: weight. The Camaro is a big car. It’s never tried to hide that, but sports cars are supposed to be as light and agile as possible.

And while the Camaro will always be a muscle car at heart, the Camaro team was able to shave 200 pounds from the body. Not only does this translate into better handling and road performance, it also translates into more speed.

Chevy was able to satisfy power-hungry enthusiasts and overall performance enthusiasts with the 2016 Camaro.

Completely Revamped Interior

2016 Camaro Interior

Mainstream performance cars like the Camaro have never been known for their interior quality. But as you’ve probably guessed, that’s another thing Chevy wanted to change with the new Camaro.

As you enter the driver’s side of the new model, you’re greeted by an entirely fresh-looking interior compared to the previous generation. There’s no doubt that this is a Camaro, but the improvements are immediately noticeable. Not just is this a more stylish and modern interior, but feels higher quality as well.

The old knobs found on the outgoing Camaro have been replaced by a line of perfectly-placed switch-like buttons that really clean up the overall look of the center dash. In addition, the main front vents have been moved to the bottom of the dash just in front of the shifter. This is a unique design choice that the Camaro team was able to pull off really well.

One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Enthusiasts  will feel like they’re entering a race car, and taller drivers will be happy to get extra room for pedal shifting and getting in/out of the vehicle.

Overall, the new Camaro interior is full of quality materials, incredible design decisions, new technology, and smiles from happy drivers here in Albany!

New Model Options. Even More Power.

2016 Chevy Camaro Trim Levels

The 2016 Camaro isn’t just shaking things up with a new exterior and interior changes; it’s also changing the engine options available. This includes an entirely new option! Below we’ll detail each of the model options to help you choose the one that fits you best.

New Entry Level Model: 2.0-Liter 4-Cylinder Turbo

While a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine may not seem like the obvious choice for a mean-looking muscle car like the Camaro, it’s a great option for new buyers looking for the best performance at a low price.

And it’s no lightweight when it comes to power and overall performance. Thanks to its turbocharger, the new entry level Camaro is able to put out 275 hp and 295 lb-ft. of torque. If you know your Camaro specs, you’ll know that the horsepower isn’t up there with the previous-generation V6; however, the new Turbo Camaro is actually almost 400 pounds lighter than the 2015 V6 model.

On top of that, the turbocharger adds more torque when compared to the fifth-generation V6; this gives drivers more power off the line and translates into better 0-60 mph time (5.5 vs 5.9) , as well as track lap times, than the older V6 as well.

If you were against turbocharged cars before, what about now?

Mid-Level Model: 3.6-Liter V6

Nothing beats a V8 Camaro; that we can all agree on. But when your budget doesn’t cooperate with the extra costs, do you just throw in the towel and leave your dreams behind? Not at DePaula Chevrolet!

The 3.6-liter V6 engine has grown up even more with the 2016 Camaro, adding more power and torque than ever before. And thanks to a huge weight loss regimen by the Camaro team, the V6 model is now nearly 300 pounds lighter than the previous generation.

Putting out 335 hp and 284 lb-ft. of torque, you’ll have plenty of power to play with and a great soundtrack to listen to when you put your foot to the floor.

High-End Model: SS (6.2-Liter V8)

You’ve arrived at the promised land! The new 2016 Camaro SS is the top-of-the-line model, featuring a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine that packs more power than ever before in the lightest Camaro body ever created.

Sounds like a pretty amazing combination, right? Well, these specs and stats will blow your mind.

Last generation’s SS put out 426 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque, weighing in around 3,908 pounds. There’s no denying it was an incredibly high-performing car, but Chevy isn’t in the business of excepting “the best” and moving on. That’s why we’re able to enjoy their newest gift to us.

The new 2016 Camaro bumps the power up to 455 hp and 455 lb-ft. of torque, but sheds 223 pounds to bring the total weight to just 3,685 pounds. This allows the SS to go from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds flat.

Just for comparison, that’s about the same time you’ll see in a brand new BMW M4. The difference between the new Camaro and the M4? Nearly $30,000, as the M4 retails for just over $65,000 and the 2016 Camaro SS’s price will be around $37,000.

There’s no doubt this will be one of the lowest-priced, yet high-performing sports cars you’ll be able to find (new or used) in New York.
